Kevin joined the Oilfield Service Sector in 1980 as a Trainee Inspection Engineer with Tuboscope International, and now has 43 years of expertise and knowledge on a Global basis
within the Oil & Gas Industry.
By 1986 he had progressed to the title of Senior Inspection Engineer and was responsible for running many projects involved in the implementation of specific inspection programs, throughout Europe and North, West Africa.
In 1987 he was transferred to Tuboscope Operations in the North Sea and was appointed Operations Supervisor for UK Operations. This involved co-ordinating daily inspection activities for all North Sea clients and supervising and training of 25 inspection engineers. By 1990 he was appointed to Operations Manager responsible for 60 employees and all company activities in the North Sea from Monthly Accounts, Sales, Contract Administration and Training Schedules. In 1992 Tuboscope purchased Vetco International, their major competitor in Oilfield Tubular Inspection and Plastic Coating applications. As Operations Manager he was responsible with consolidating all inspection activities, contracts, etc. of these two companies.
During the last year of his employment with Tuboscope Vetco he was requested to join a Shell Quality Improvement Project (QIP) on Reduction of Drillstring Failures with Shell Operations as an Inspection Expert on Drilling Equipment.
In 1993 Kevin Fearnley decided to leave his employment of Tuboscope Vetco and form his own Consultancy company, O.C.T.G. Consultancy Limited.
Over five years O.C.T.G. Consultancy achieved steady growth as a company and started to specialise in Drillstring Failure Prevention. Much of Kevin’s expertise in this subject was gained over the four years working on the Shell Quality Improvement Team on Reduction of Drillstring Failures through his own company. Knowledge was gained in all aspects of performing equipment failures, Properties, Rig Operations, Inspection, Design, Environment (P.R.I.D.E). This methodology for investigating equipment failures is still used within the company some 1,500 + equipment failures later.
A significant achievement during Kevin’s time on the Quality Improvement Team was when the Drillstring Failure Prevention Team gained the Gold Award – “The Delft Plate” – in 1993 and in 1995. The Delft Plate is the highest award in Shell for Quality Improvement.
In 1998 Kevin went into equal partnership to form O.C.T.G Procter Consultancy Limited and then in 2003 the companymade a name change to Fearnley Procter UK Limited.
2004 saw Fearnley Procter Group formed as a Holding Company to expand the company’s services from the North Sea to a worldwide client base.
Kevin travelled extensively over a period of time to play a major part in the forming of Fearnley Procter subsidiary companies, employing local Managers and staff, and obtaining a new client base.
Corporate governance and a strong company culture was developed for the organisation as well as setting up a group management team to oversee its overseas operations.
In 2016 Kevin took over 100% shareholding of Fearnley Procter Group, by buying out his business partner, the company then became Fearnley Group International.
Kevin’s career has allowed him to succeed as an Entrepreneur, but also in the latter years he has spent some of his own time as a Philanthropist, committing to social responsibility, and becoming recognised as a “socially conscious entrepreneur” who bridges cultural gaps, champions philanthropic causes, and actively engages in
the communities where the Fearnley Group operates, through a variety of initiatives including cultural exchange programs and charitable contributions, the group not only enriches the local community but also nurtures economic growth through its business endeavours.
